Kate Peytavin releases “Whole heart black”, a piece of the puzzle

At just 19 years old, Kate Peytavin has already released four singles: “Ever Fallen?”, “Something’s Off”, “Killing Time”, and “Big White Light”. Today marks the release of her fifth single, “Whole Heart Black”.

With this new release, she showcases the sonic influence of 90s and 2000s of teenage angst, with inspiration from artists such as Avril Lavigne and Paramore. She found herself creating a happy accident while recording, she mistakenly switched two words in her lyrics, originally from “you found my heart so cold and you set it on fire, now it’s all gone and miss your high, you turn my whole world black but I want you back” to “you found my world so cold and you set it on fire, now it’s all gone and miss your high, you turn my whole heart black but I want you back”, which ultimately led to the song’s title.

In terms of songwriting, Peytavin is a firm believer in embracing vulnerability and finds beauty in lyrics with hidden meaning, no such thing as being too much when being vulnerable. Love being a universal experience, serves as a central theme in her music, and is why she incorporates to allow her listeners to connect on a deeper level. The inspiration for her song, “Big White Light” stems from her father’s and brother’s rare genetic mutation that carries a high risk of cancer, creating a much more specific and deeper connection for not only her, but also her listeners who can relate to being in that situation.

Kate is from New Orleans, Louisiana but currently lives in Los Angeles, California for a better opportunity for her music career. Normally Kate finds herself being the youngest person in the room and at times can have people not take her seriously at first for her age, but she remains undeterred by initial skepticism and stays motivated and confident, continuing to do what she enjoys. Drawing inspiration from Pinterest, Kate creates mood boards to infuse her music with a vintage energy, both sonically and visually, and peeks inspiration from Lana Del Rey and Suki Waterhouse. She even jokingly noted that they all have curtain bangs.

While she has yet to perform live in front of an audience yet, Kate has performed via stream for Universal Music Group’s network, 3point5, their official twitch channel. She lets us in on how much fun she had and is excited to perform live and get the opportunity to envision and design her own set creatively. If given the chance, she would love to transition into performing live as an opener for Suki Waterhouse. For 2024, an artistic goal she has for herself is to release a music video. Kate has released music visualizers for her songs but is eager to direct and have full creative imagination for a full storyline - the rest of her puzzle.
