The Ho-Ho-Ho-iest Special of All: Sabrina Carpenter’s A Nonsense Christmas

With celebrity guests, comedy skits, and performances of songs from her EP Fruitcake, on December 6th, Sabrina gave us a Christmas gift a few weeks early in her Netflix Christmas special titled A Nonsense Christmas.

Opening the show with Buy Me Presents, Sabrina showed us a first look at the set and the live studio audience the show was filmed before. She then walked us through what we should expect from the evening in a song, The Most Nonsense Time of the Year. Throughout the night, Sabrina sang originals like these, as well as covers of classic Christmas hits, such as Santa Baby.

Sabrina had a few musical guests throughout the special, such as Kali Uchis and Tyla. She sang covers of Christmas songs as duets, Last Christmas with Chappell Roan, for example. These duets were everything I needed and more—Sabrina’s Christmas wish was to sing a duet with Shania Twain, and who knew it was mine to hear it?

Comedy was just as much a highlight as the music. Skits featured guest appearances by stars like Cara Delevingne and Quinta Brunson, with moments that poked fun at holiday stress: picking the perfect gift for your brother-in-law, surviving long-distance relationships with a shady partner, and even dealing with heartbreak during cuffing season. A running gag throughout the special had everyone pitching increasingly ridiculous ideas for a Nonsense Outro, culminating in Sabrina’s tongue-in-cheek closing:

"Well, here we are, my special at its ending / Love you all, and thank you for attending / I can’t believe I kept it family-friendling!"

A true “chrismash,” A Nonsense Christmas will be added to the long list of holiday classics I force my family to watch every year.
