During a recent press conference, Sam Tompkins provided insights into his latest album and his journey in the music industry.

Tompkins shared the story behind the viral success of his collaboration with Jnr Choi, "To the Moon." He revealed that the song’s unexpected popularity was a pleasant surprise, created with minimal premeditation, emphasizing its organic and spontaneous nature. He expressed excitement about future collaborations, preferring in-person sessions to maintain authenticity.

Tompkins also spoke about his collaboration with Justin Bieber, recalling how his inner Belieber was thrilled. He described Justin as an amazing mentor and cherished friend, providing guidance and wisdom that few others could offer, making the experience a dream come true.

Regarding his approach to music, Tompkins discussed the importance of authenticity. He explained that his creative process now involves journaling his thoughts and experiences, which informs his songwriting more organically than traditional studio sessions. He focuses on creating music that is relatable and comforting, addressing themes of mental health and personal struggles.

Tompkins noted, “I want listeners to feel comforted, heard, and seen. 'See Me,' for example, came from a life coaching session about body dysmorphia. My music is about sharing and opening up.”

Currently, on his UK + Europe Tour promoting his latest album, Sam Tompkins shared insights into his performance preparation routine. As a smoker, he avoids drinking the day before and refrains from smoking 24 hours before a show. On performance day, he sticks to plain foods—no dairy or spicy items—and engages in a 30-minute vocal warm-up 90 minutes prior to hitting the stage. He also takes an hour of silence to relax, and if he feels particularly nervous, he might even sit on the toilet to calm down. Tompkins emphasizes the importance of maintaining personal connections while on tour to stay grounded and focused. His upcoming November tour will be especially meaningful, featuring his first performance in Spain as a tribute to his father.

Wrapping up the press conference, Tompkins expressed gratitude for the support he has received from fans and noted that he often feels like an imposter. Despite his achievements, including chart successes and industry recognition, he remains humbled and surprised by the ongoing support. Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledged how far he has come from his early days as a busker and how his 16-year-old self would be amazed at his current success.
